DYCP WORK EXAMPLES
Elizabeth Thomas

Here are examples of my drawings, printmaking, early tone experiments & commercial portfolio

Marine Life Studies
These are journal studies I did to test my technical ability and see if the project would be achievable. I use a grid method for accurate proportions and not tracing.

Commercial Portfolio Work
Examples from my commercial portfolio that are inspired by risography & screenprinting.

Risographs
Beginning to play with layers & tones. All printed with Roots Press Studio.

Screenprinting
I created my own set up at home & experimented with analogue techniques.

Tones
Early exploration trying out pushing drawings with surreal elements & making tones to go underneath figures.

Ride Series

A series of illustrated prints created to encourage girls (especially my daughters) that being adventurous is not just a boy thing. They were designed to be riso-printed in three colours which overlap to produce orange and purple.

Wolf Risograph

Risograph print with Metallic Gold veg based ink on recycled black A3 cardstock milled in Devon and printed by Porthtowan based risoprint studio, Roots Press.

Design

While it's not my primary focus, I am a trained and experienced graphic designer and I like to take on some design work now and then to satisfy my urges to tidy type and push shapes around. I've done some fun collaborations with local companies recently, including murals, game design and risograph prints.

YMCA Cornwall

Design and illustration for a YMCA Cornwall competition who were keen to support a local print studio in Porthtowan in producing two colour risograph print versions of the posters. They are based in Penzance where they provide housing for young vulnerable people and help get them back on their feet. I also donated one of my surf screenprints as a runners up prize.

Lizzy is an illustrator based in St Agnes on the Cornish coast in the UK. Her work is influenced by being a self taught screen-printer and from a recent stint as a risograph print technician. She has a BA in Graphic Design, spent several years working on editorial magazines in London and has illustrated for over 15 years. She has a love for nature and marine life, is a volunteer for the Cornwall Wildlife Trust Marine Strandings Network and has spent the last year or so working on a new wildlife focused body of work which she hopes to share soon.

Partial client list: Esquire UK, Boots, Amazon, Waitrose, Cosmopolitan, Total Film, Women's Health, Ideal Home, YMCA Cornwall, Wired, Runners' World, Octopus Publishing, Pegasus, Quarto, Prevention, You Magazine, CNBC, Fenwicks, Canteen Porthtowan and more.
